Getting the Fear

Yeah I know. Me no post no more. Well not lately anyway. Like a broken record I will repeat the words I have used so often here.

Its just so damn hard to find the time.

Its surely not for lack of ideas. There has been a lot of crap going on in the world that deserves a full flavored beef makeover. We have a Supreme Court that will soon be leaning so far to the Right that they will topple off the bench, hopefully crushing Clarence Thomas and Scalia to death under their collective weight. Judge Roberts, now Alito and Attorney General Gonzales will surely yank our Judicial System so far backwards that owning Slaves will come back into fashion. Serves us right though. Its who this country's voters put in power so we have no one to blame for it but ourselves. You want to know what the really scary thing is though? Its starting to look like that's the way We The People want it. Just look at the last two elections.

Back in September 2005 Bill Bennett, a CNN political analyst said if "you wanted to reduce crime ... if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down."

CNN kept him on. No one really noticed and to this day he defends his comments.

Out in San Francisco someone is wasting tax payer money suing Rock Star Games for "including porn in their Video Game" Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.

Republican law makers are petitioning the FCC to regulate content on PAY TV and Satellite Radio, all subscription based BY CHOICE entertainment.

Radical Extremists have taken over the governments of Palestine, IRAN and Syria. All this while the Bush administration is supposedly spreading Democracy across the Middle East.

Nearing 3000 dead in Iraq and Gas is $2.50 a gallon.

James Frey, a former alcoholic and drug addict gets the touch of gold from Oprah as she chooses his book for her Book Club thus assuring 5 Million Housewives buy it, rocketing it onto the bestseller list. A month later it turns out he made up a lot of it and Oprah verbally spanks him on her show. The book, A Million Little Pieces still is a bestseller on Amazon.com.

FX Network's groundbreaking drama Over There, the first war drama to take place during its actual conflict is cancelled after one season due to low viewership yet American Idol is one of the most watched shows on TV.

Serious Fear and Loathing in America in this year of our Lord.

Pray for us.

On the flipside...

Hooray for Cuzn Rick! His first published book, Dead Men Hike No Trails is in my hands and is on its way to many others! Its a great book and such a rush to see his work in print! No more straining at a PC screen for his Gonzo goodness!

Movies and Morons

Lets talk about Movies. I love movies. Anyone that knows anything about me knows the passion I have for the moving picture. I am a film geek to the tenth power. This year was an extremely crappy season for movies. I cant think of any great Summer movies that got me pumped for a trip to the theatre. The few big hit movies I enjoyed were Sin City, Batman Begins and of course the final Star Wars. Sin City was an incredible piece of work and Batman Begins was one of the best comic book movies ever. Star Wars Episode three was...well it was Star Wars, you either love it or you could care less. I am a fanboy.

War of the Worlds? So-So.
Hitch? Blech.
Mr and Mrs Smith? Double Blech.
Bewitched? Kill me now, please.

What we did get was a good dose of Horror films. My all time favorite genre. This year marked the return of George Romero and his Zombie universe he made so famous in Night of The Living Dead. He returned with Land of The Dead and I loved it. Rob Zombie's The Devils Rejects was an incredibly disturbing return to the splatter exploitation films of the 70's. Bloody good stuff.

Saw 2 was one of the most brutally violent movies I saw all year. Not as good as the first but funner and bloodier.

The Amityville Horror remake and the Excorcism of Emily Rose were good mindless horror fun.

The 40 year old Virgin and The Wedding Crashers run off with the dirty comedies with a heart awards.

As far as flat out good dramas I haven't seen Jarhead, Walk the Line, Good Night and Good Luck or Capote yet. But I will.

Now for the garbage of 2005:
White Noise
Bewitched
Alone in The Dark
Elektra
The Ring Two
The Pacifier
Son of The Mask
I could go on for ever.

So this brings me to a little film called Brokeback Mountain. Yes its the Gay cowboy movie. Its been getting mostly raving reviews and has already garnered many award nominations. I will be seeing the film when it comes out on DVD to gauge all the hype around it. Not really my type of movie, gay cowboys or not. I just recently read a news story that disturbed me deeply.

Here is a part of it:

A movie theater owned by Utah Jazz owner Larry Miller abruptly changed its screening plans and decided not to show the film "Brokeback Mountain." The film, an R-rated Western gay romance story, was supposed to open Friday at the Megaplex at Jordan Commons in Sandy, a suburb of Salt Lake City. Instead it was pulled from the scheduleThe movie's distributor, Focus Features, said that hours before opening, the theater management "reneged on their licensing agreement," and refused to open the film.
Gayle Ruzicka, president of the conservative Utah Eagle Forum, said not showing the film set an example for the people of Utah.
"I just think (pulling the show) tells the young people especially that maybe there is something wrong with this show," she said.

Now I am all for a business owner to decide what he wants to carry in his store or sell in his restaurant. I am not really sure how I feel about this though. It is obvious that the owner is a religious person who feels homosexuality is bad so he is not going to allow the film to be shown at his theatre. That's his right I guess but I wouldn't be going to that theatre ever again I lived in that town. What he is doing is making the choice for the people in his community on whether or not they can see this film. Granted I am sure they could go elsewhere but what if he is the only theatre in the area? No one is going to go and see a Gay cowboy movie unless they want to. I don't see how this film will have a negative effect on the youth of Utah. Actually its rated R so the kids cant get in even if they wanted to unless an adult goes with them. I doubt there are young men sneaking in to multiplexes across the country, hoping to see the gay cowboys and then head off into the woods to live out scenes from the movie. Its utterly ridiculous. Censorship in any form is wrong even if it tangles with free speech and personal rights. If I lived in that town I would be sure anyone who wanted too could see the film and I am not even a Gay cowboy. :-)

Speaking of utterly ridiculous I will leave you today with a quote from Pat Robertson, giving us his reasoning for the recent downturn in health of Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon

"And now Ariel Sharon, who was again a very likeable person, a delightful person to be with. I prayed with him personally. But here he is at the point of death. He was dividing God's land, and I would say woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the EU, the United Nations or United States of America. God said, "This land belongs to me, you better leave it alone." -Pat Robertson

Tee hee

Justin "not a cowboy at all"

P.S-Congrats to The New England Patriots! Three more wins!!

A New Year and a New Look

Welcome back to the beef for 2006. I have changed the blogs look a little just to add something different. There are also a lot of new links and each week or so I will post some new ones and update the Link of the Moment. I am a notorious Internet Whore and if its online I will find it. Check 'em out when you are bored.

Thanks to all who joined the mailing list. I will be working on a monthly newsletter of some sort and be sure to notify readers of anything cool. Again, anyone interested should email me @ thebeeflog@yahoo.com.

Christmas is over and the New Year is here. I had a great time with friends, up in the woods of Maine, on a lake with a fire going and much partying. A great time and a fitting way to indulge our excesses for the last time in '05. This boy is toning it down quite a bit in '06 simply so there will be an '07 for me to enjoy. I am looking forward to accomplishing much more this year. Not only here but in my personal life as well. Instead of telling everyone all the things I am going to do I am keeping them to myself this year. If I accomplish certain goals I will be sure to share them with everyone and if not, well hell, no one will know anyway right? So my advice to everyone is keep your resolutions to yourself and good luck!

Only a week into the New Year and things are heating up in Washington. This Abramoff guy who is cutting a deal with the Fed's is sure to have some juicy stuff to tell about his many Congressman friends. This could be interesting. Right Wing pundits are already downplaying it. Could it be people are running scared?

I was also going to say "welcome to 2006" to our friend Bill O'Reilly who started the New Year by saying George Soros ,the financier who helps a lot of left wing websites, should "..be hanged". Alas it turns out Bill said it in October of last year and thus does not qualify for a 2006 quote.

Bummer.

If you haven't heard about a little book coming out soon then head over to Lord Dukes site.
Go. Buy Book. Be happy.

This Friday a little movie called "Hostel" opens. If you want to be scared shitless and vomit on your pals go see it. I have been waiting forever and now it is here. Yes, I am a sick puppy.

So stay tuned and we will get the beef kicked off right this weekend. Thanks for sticking around and I look forward to another year of the Beef.

Randomness:

Song you should download right now: "Rhinoceros" by The Smashing Pumpkins

Cuzin Rick! If I don't talk to you before, the answer to your question is the"Evil Dead" series. Those were the movies with Bubba Ho Tep's Bruce Campbell. Good Stuff.
